More children in SDG to benefit from Success By 6
In March 2004 Success By 6 - SDG announced funding to five area neighbourhoods as part of their new Neighbourhood Grants.
This time around they are funding four more groups to deliver programs to children 0-6 as part of their new Program Grants.
June 18th was the deadline for the first call for proposals to Success by 6 for Program Grants. The successful programs benefit children 0-6 in Cornwall and Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry (SDG) for a total allocation of $35,790.00.
The programs include: Bébé Fête/Baby FAST by Partir d'un bon pas & Équipe psycho-sociale – an 8 week bilingual program for young parents (moms and dads) and their babies (0-3 yrs). Sessions are filled with crafts, family centered activities, adult discussion time, family meals and helpful tips about babies. All family members such as siblings & grandparents are encouraged to participate; "Learning Readiness" program at Maxville Public School that includes 20 three hour modules for children under 3 years old and 24 four hour modules for children 3-6 yrs.; Home Literacy Pilot Project by the International Literacy Coalition - developed across Eastern Ontario, Akwesasne and Northern New York State, the objective is to enhance the literacy levels of children from birth to school age; Summer Recreation Program by Cornwall & Area Housing - a recreation program for children 0-6 (and their siblings) who reside in the low-income housing complex in Alexandria.
Success by 6 is sponsored by the United Way of Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry, and funded in part by the Ontario Trillium Foundation. The goal of the initiative is to ensure that children get off to a good start in life.
Closing dates for proposals for Neighbourhood Grants are March 31 and September 30 of each year. Program Grants are available annually.
