School’s Cool Graduation Class of 2006

Over 180 proud parents, grandparents and siblings gathered, in the gymnasium of Notre-Dame school, on August 18th, to watch as their 3-4 year olds walked to the tune of Pomp and Circumstance. They were the graduating class of School’s Cool 2006.

School’s Cool is a 72 hour school readiness program run during the summer for children who are to begin J.K. This early childhood development program aims to promote children’s excitement for learning and builds their skills and confidence.

Each of the five classes was brought up on stage and performed a song before receiving their diplomas. The crowd was treated to very cute renditions of “Itsy Bitsy Spider” and “Monkeys Jumping on the Bed”. The song about bananas by a class of children all dressed in yellow wooed everyone. Proud parents took pictures and congratulated their children on a job well done. The School’s Cool program also received rave reviews. When asked about the program, parents said:

It introduces the school schedule, they socialize with their buddies and they become more independent away from their parents

They learn so much in a short time”.

It prepares kids for school on a social level, to not be afraid of joining a group and participating actively without judgment”.

This summer 58 children graduated from the program that was offered in 5 area schools (St-Lucie, Notre-Dame, Terre des Jeunes, Sacred Heart and Roxmore Public). This was possible thanks to a grant received from the Trillium Foundation and to a successful partnership between the Early Years Centre and United Way of S.D. & G.
