Hamilton Crescent was the place to be on this Saturday afternoon to witness a community coming together to celebrate their children. It was a wonderful busy hub of all kinds of kid-friendly activities tended to by smiling volunteers. At the registration table, neighbourhood families were warmly greeted and given a fun passport for all the great things to do.
Each station had a hands-on activity for children and adults alike to
be silly, explore their talent and meet their
neighbors. Chief Parkinson handed out the
instructions for a wonderful Scavenger Hunt that
got everyone on the move to get to know each other.
Participants were asked to find a person who spoke
3 or more languages, a baby younger than six
months and a painted rock. Many Cornwall police
officers lent a hand and the End of Summer – Back
to School Activity Day an incredible community
event.
Children expressed their creative talent by painting on a large banner. This collective piece of art captured the goal of event ¯ building community spirit for children. Games were plentiful and all had
fun.
This group of residents was successful in receiving funds
through the Success By 6, Neighbourhood Grant Program,
which is a United Way of S.D. & G. initiative. Community participation and involvement were strongly recognized in the buzz of the activities. Many hands spent a lot of hours getting this activity day together. Sharfa a bright 9 year old discussed enthusiastically how she volunteered and helped prepare the event.
The day finished with a great community meal and children left with gifts of new school supplies.
